Alright, we’re back at it already, folks. The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards are returning later in 2024. It’s not new information, but, yes, it means in the same year, we’re about to have not one, but two ceremonies in which The Bear is likely to win a good amount of awards—this time for its stellar second season.

ABC confirmed at the 2024 Television Critics Association’s (TCA) winter press tour that the network will air the upcoming Emmys ceremony in the fall. We don’t know who is hosting yet, but expect Jimmy Kimmel’s name to float around as a potential contender, since he hosts Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC. Although, imagine how delightful (ahem, funnier) it would be if someone else maybe got the opportunity to do it.

The Television Academy and ABC announced that the Emmys will air coast to coast from Los Angeles in September. As for the nominations? They’ll be announced on July 17.

As a reminder, the 75th annual Primetime Emmys aired in January 2024 instead of the usual September slot due to the (extremely necessary!) WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in summer 2023. As a result, the ceremony was pushed to early 2024. Black-ish’s Anthony Anderson hosted the awards, which featured major wins for Succession’s final season, Abbott Elementary, Beef, and The Bear. The latter won for season one due to the Emmys eligibility period. It means season two (released in June 2023, it featured all the cameos in “Fishes,” along with Cousin Richie achieving his potential against the backdrop of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”) is going to compete for the September Emmys.

Some of the other big contenders include shows like Fargo, Abbott Elementary, Only Murders In The Building, Lessons In Chemistry, The Curse, and True Detective: Night Country. Although let’s hope Emmy voters decide to venture beyond their comfort zone and watch more TV before handing out nominations this time.

The 76th Primetime Emmys will air on ABC on Sunday, September 15 at 8 p.m. ET and stream on Hulu the next day.

Now that this season’s Fargo has concluded, maybe it will get some attention. Was it better than The Bear? Take as a full season, yes, but nothing is going to top those two episodes of The Bear.
