After finishing their respective runs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have re-teamed with Chris Evans for Netflix’s forthcoming action flick The Gray Man. Given that their first collaboration Captain America: The Winter Soldier is widely considered to be one of the best installments in the franchise, the reunion is an inevitable talking point.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, the Russo Brothers are asked which other Marvel character they’d like to see Evans play, after directing him as Captain America in four movies. Joe immediately answers, “Wolverine,” with Anthony backing him up.
“Evans has incredible range and a great physicality, and he’s really good at body control,” Joe continues. “He’s an incredible actor. He is absolutely–I don’t mean this in a bad way–but he’s nothing like Captain America. Steve Rogers is very controlled and quiet and understated. Chris is energetic and funny and charismatic, and he brings a lot of energy to set. He’s just a really incredible actor, I’d love to see him do something like Wolverine.”
While Hugh Jackman was beloved for his decade-plus run as the adamantium-clawed hero, many comic book fans are hoping that the next live-action adaptation of the X-Men will include an actor who’s closer to the character’s original 5'3" height. Though Evans is considerably taller, at least he wouldn’t have to shave his chest this time?
The Lightyear actor recently mentioned an interest in returning to the comic book world, though he’d prefer to reprise his role as the Human Torch, whom he played in two Fantastic Four movies before the MCU kicked off. Marvel’s first family is also tipped for a reboot, though the search for a director is still underway.
The Gray Man also co-stars Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, and Regé-Jean Page. It’ll receive a limited theatrical run starting on July 15 before hitting Netflix on July 22.

Oooooof, nah.
Nope.
Did someone just throw a medicine ball at you?
Well I’d like to see him play Othello, but that shit’s just not cool anymore.
In blackface? Why would you want to see modern day blackface?
Oh it’s Kinja Caffiene Spider, I should have checked first before I bothered responding.
yeah, I guess.
Dumb
this just feels like something they said to game SEO numbers.
To tall and to prettyJackman was cool as Wolverine but he made that character his own in a lot of ways. I would really like to see a more comic accurate Wolverine show up in the MCU. I doubt we will see a 5′ 3″ Wolverine but a lot of actors in Hollywood are shorter then they appear on screen and are filmed to look taller so higher some scruffy looking dude whos 5′ 7″ and just don’t put him on an apple box.
maybe an unpopular opinion but i hate when he’s fully drawn comics accurate. it always stands out and looks silly to me. (obviously comics are silly, but you catch my drift). i know it’s also sort of meant to be ridiculous looking, but it doesn’t work for me.i think splitting the difference and having someone about 5’7 makes sense. i always thought someone who evokes lethal weapon’era mel gibson would be a good vibe. someone who has a small frame but also seems like they can rip you apart.people say radcliffe but i don’t think he has a deep enough voice.
Danny DeVito is RIGHT THERE!
He’s already cast as Man-Spider.
He old
ur mom old
Fan casting: Jared Keeso of Letterkenny. He’s 5′ 10″ so he’s a little tall, but not crazy tall, and he’s Canadian.
Height is forgivable if we get a Wolverine with a Canadian accent.
I’m trying to figure out what Wolverine being polite would look like, and I just can’t.
“You’re spare parts, Bub”
Jared Keeso isn’t a bad fan cast. It’s also funny, (I was young at the time and my mom is a comic nerd and told me) Hugh Jackman was allegedly denied a ticket on a train from the ticket desk. It was because the operator didn’t like how tall Hugh was, being cast as Wolverine. Keep in mind, this is something from the original X-Men movie in 2000.
I want Danny DeVito as Wolverine.
So anyway, I started slashin’.
Also, and I say this from the perspective of a 31-year-old, people have been getting shorter in my lifetime? Like I swear to god all the highschool seniors were six feet tall when I was in grade nine. Now I’m seeing all these twee grade 12s be like 5’6 wtf.
Wolverine is canonically 5’4″, ergo the only appropriate actor for the role is Daniel Radcliffe.
Or Daniel Day Lewis as Wolverine.
1st Marvel movie to win an Oscar.
Brie Larson already holds that honor. And Sam Jackson has an honorary Oscar.
I did not know Black Panther won an Oscar.
OK, 2nd Marvel movie to win.
Radcliffe doesn’t have the frame to be barrel-chested. It’s not a matter of putting on tissue (muscle). It’s the skeleton.
Really? Wow. I guess I’m glad I never read comics.
He’s supposed to be small and vicious. You know…like a wolverine.
Nah we’ve already done the pretty boy leading man version. Let’s do it right this time.
I don’t know about Wolverine, but I’m on board for just continually casting Chris Evans as more and more characters in the MCU with no explanation why 8 different superheroes all look exactly alike. In fact, maybe they can save money on salaries if he does the Fantastic Four movie all by himself like The Klumps.
Absolutely should do this and they could just retcon it all at the end as a Dr. Strange opium den fever dream or Jacob’s Ladder scenario
rather they go for more newcomers it gives the producers much more room to work the character
Why waste him on Wolverine when he was clearly born to play Stilt-Man?
I want him back as an alt-universe Steve Rogers in full comic accurate Nomad outfit. Evans could totally pull it off and it would be fabulous.
From what I understand, “running from the law” Steve with a beard from Infinity War was, to my understanding, the MCU tipping their hat at Nomad.
It was, I just want one from another universe in that outfit and acting like there’s nothing wrong with it at all and we’re the ones making it weird.
Give us a short ugly Wolverine already, you chicken shit cowards! Isn’t that why all you Wolverine dorks liked him(I never cared for Wolverine)! You all wanted someone who you can relate to!See I’m better than all of you because I loved Peter Parker, I mean he was 5’6 and geek and not….. fuck me! Damn it!
Joe Pesci’s 5’3″ and his schedule is wide open.
I have a horrible feeling that if the rumors that Marvel’s talking to Cruise are true, Logan’s the character they’re talking about. I hope not, but I think they’d start crowing “Look! We got you a short Wolverine, like you always wanted!”
they’re not gonna cast a 60 year old man as wolverine.
I’d hope not, but then again, you can multiverse your way out of anything these days.
Chris Evans should play every Marvel character.I look forward to his interpretation of the Molecule Man.
I was down here to make a comment about not believing that people are actually clamoring for a shorter actor to play Wolverine, but apparently they are.
yeah some people like short guys too.
WHEN DO TICKETS GO ON SALE? Oh, sorry, was that too loud?
Some potential castings based on height, and under 40 so they can appear in multi-year arc:
Jesse Eisenberg
Dave Franco
Zach Galifianakis
Jonah Hill
Aziz Ansari
Josh Hutcherson
Frankie Muniz
Daniel Radcliffe
IF they wanna go for “Old Man Logan” Martin Sheen, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman,. My favorite would be “In a world where Disney/Marvel cast age and height appropriate actors for their comic book characters, Danny Trejo is Old Man Logan…”
