The soundtracks of the MCU are heading to vinyl

Mondo has long existed as the purveyor of distinctive fan collectibles for a number of fandoms, including the recent soundtrack release for the Buffy The Vampire Slayer musical, “Once More With Feeling.” The MCU is next fecund universe to get the vinyl treatment, and it comes just in time for Endgame. Just ahead of the long-awaited film release, Mondo will kick off their string of wax debuts with the soundtrack for Ant-Man And The Wasp. Per a recent press release, the premiere of the vinyl soundtrack will include collectible artwork by Phantom City Creative and 14 previously unreleased bonus tracks.

Mondo will continue the rollout of additional Marvel records throughout the year. The next collections slated for release will include Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok. It’s a cool way to celebrate (or commiserate) the close of an era in superhero cinema, long after the final shot dissipates from the screen.

Fans can get their hands on the collection when it goes on sale Wednesday, April 24 on the store’s website.

Please never use the word fecund again.

With Ant-Man and the Wasp, they’re selling the score, not the soundtrack.Assuming that’s the way going forward (it’s shocking that Mondo appears to use the words interchangeably), this isn’t a big deal, because with a couple of exceptions (Black Panther being the notable one), the MCU scores tend to be bland and unremarkable.

Yea this is spot on. The Marvel movies are a mixed bag generally, and while it’s certainly impressive that they’ve been able to create such a large universe of overall decent films, the music is consistently the least interesting element of any of them (no offense to the Henry Jackmans and Michael Giacchinos of the world who consistently put out a professional product). The only score I could see myself listening to again (maybe aside from Thor: Ragnarok) is Black Panther, and I imagine that’s largely thanks to the fact that Ryan Coogler had enough power in the production process that he could bring along Ludwig Göransson to score the film (who, it sounds like was himself given the bandwidth to do his own thing).

Obligatory plug of the much better response video.

For such a rich catalogue of blockbusters, I can’t think of a memorable theme or motif in any of the soundtracks.

What, guys — no love for Captain America’s March? (Or The Avengers’ wake-up call, for that matter.)

I’ve got exactly three. Across 21 movies.

        1. The Spidey theme, which gets an asterisk next to it on the grounds that it’s been around since 1967.
        2. The main Avengers theme, which gets an asterisk next to it because I thought it was totally forgettable the first time around, and only grew on me with repetition.
        3. “Black Tears” from GotG.

Which means I’ve really only got exactly one. Across 21 movies.

The hottest of takes: other than Black Panther and maybe the Avengers theme, the MCU has wildly forgettable soundtracks and scores.
