Tina Fey and Meredith Scardino's Peacock comedy Girls5eva is coming in May, here's a trailer
TV Features Girls5evaTina Fey and Meredith Scardino’s comedy series Girls5eva was one of the more high-profile announcements of Peacock’s first wave (because it was co-created by Tina Fey and has a pretty famous cast), and now we finally have our first look at the series. Girls5eva, as you might be able to guess from that name, is about a ‘90s girl group that suddenly gets renewed relevance when a rapper samples their one hit, inspiring them to reunite and plan a comeback. The girls are played by Sara Bareilles, René Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, and Busy Philipps, making this Bareilles second big TV project in the last couple of years and second big TV project for a fledgling streaming service (she did the music for Apple TV+’s Little Voice and appeared in the series as herself).
Girls5eva will premiere on Peacock on May 6, and you can see a trailer for it below this.

So what’s our opinion of Tina Fey right now?
She makes good TV.
I enjoyed Mr Mayor and the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt movie. It’s kind of obvious that she’s at a point in her career where she doesn’t want to work as hard as she did on 30 Rock. That’s fair since her and Robert Carlock’s hours on that show were insane, but it’s showing a bit in the quality of the work. These are B+ efforts.
She’s funny, but casting a white woman to play a native American revealed her to be shockingly basic.
That was the joke…That it was terrible and that she was a terrible person
There was also that time where her show made fun of a guy with mental issues and he committed suicide…
…and it was brilliant.
Was it? Because all I can think is that beyond Martin Short’s natural charisma, the whole thing is pretty unintentionally dark, when you know it’s just to make fun of a well-known personality. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be in that writer’s room while they came up with that episode, did nobody feel gross about that?
There may have been a few long hot showers.
And she doubled down on criticism of Jacqueline and an Asian character by dedicating an episode to Titus doing a geisha performance.
I can’t think of that without facepalming.
The joke was she was passing as a WASPy blonde.
Name one other trait of that character. I’m not sure anyone who’s mad that she wasn’t played by a Native American actress understands the details.
30 Rock still has some of the best comedic lines out there, but a lot of it hasn’t aged well. I feel like Tina has room for growth and isn’t going to double down on her mistakes like a lot of male comics do.
i like her work, think having a conversation with her for longer than 5 minutes would be excruciating, and genuinely believe her to be the very specific kind of white-female-comedian-racist-lite.
From what I hear she’s great to work with.
Man, Paula Pell has been working lately. Good for her.
She’s no Gary Oldman, but alright.
“has a pretty famous cast”I’ve heard of Busy Phillips. The rest of ‘em….nope.
Paula Pell was in 30 Rock.
Also absolutely wonderful in A.P. Bio
And on Parks & Recreation as Ron Swanson’s mom. And as Elaine Stritch in that Documentary Now episode that parodid the Pennebaker doc about the making of the cast album of Sondheim’s Company.
And A.P. Bio!
René Elise Goldsberry was in some Broadway show. You know the one, the guy on the money? Salmon P. Chase, I think?
Yeah, aside from Busy Phillips, my reaction was

How’s that rock you’re under?
And Sara Bareilles is the one who made the song that powers all the Community shipping videos. So yeah, you got a Community notification for that.
She also guest-starred on Community during the gas leak year and held her own very well:
Try to connect the dots.
Sara Bareilles did that “I’m not gonna write you a love song” song that was played every 5 seconds about 10 years ago. She’s the only one I recognized.
I hate that song.
Of all the songs in the world, it’s definitely one of them.
Well, Sara Baraellis has been a pretty famous singer-songwriter for nearly two decades. And Renee was part of Hamilton, that big cultural phenomenon.
Well if you haven’t heard of them how famous can they be? 🙄
Ignorance is cool man
Sara Bareilles is a pretty famous singer and was the lead in a Broadway show (I want to say Waitress?).
Yes, that’s the one (she also wrote the music for it).
I hope the show is good, but my god that title is shit.
The name reminds me of 2gether, MTV’’s boy band parody. It started as a silly TV movie that spawned a brief spinoff TV series and music videos.
Reminds me of Boys4Now
My teeth are extra sharp, my body’s extra hairy.
Nothing will top Conan’s boy band, Dudez A Plenti:
A close second would be Boyz 12:
Thank you thank you thank you for reminding me of this beautifully stupid song and movie. It was also a series. I watched all of it.
You know you do
Considering what the show is about, I think the terrible name actually works as a solid joke.
It’s no SMILF.
Not a single joke in this trailer landed, oof
Not like the jokes on this thread!
OH SNAP
I’m sure it’s going to be an actual plot point in the film…but does it feel weird that the trailer doesn’t even reference where the fifth Girl is in the present day?
I think that’s Ashley Park from the Mean Girls musical.
*googles* Yep, that’s her and she’s on the show in a recurring role.
It’s like a gritty reimaginactament of Voltron and Battlestar Galactica where they have to find the missing key to reveal the Final 5th Girl.
It’s a TV series, not a film.
Schooled his ass!
More and more, I see a TV show that looks like a great premise for a film that I would check out, but that I wouldn’t spend eight or more hours of my life watching.
Im sure this will be fine. I loved Kimmy Schmidt and Mr Mayor is okay, but I wish she would star in sitcoms like 30 Rock.
