Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are doing so much more than eating way too much Vegemite while in quarantined in Australia. The couple announced they’d tested positive for the coronavirus last week, but have taken to social media to share updates proving they’re doing just fine.
“Hey folks. Good News: One week after testing Positive, in self-isolation, the symptoms are much the same,” Hanks posted on Instagram Wednesday morning local time. “No fever but the blahs. Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch.”
And it’s not just “the blahs” that have America’s Dad down. “Bad news: My wife @ritawilson has won 6 straight hands of Gin Rummy and leads by 201 points,” the post continues.
It was announced Monday that Wilson and Hanks had been released from a Queensland hospital. They had been in Australia for Hanks to play Elvis Presley’s manager in a currently untitled Presley biopic and Wilson to promote her new album, Halfway to Home.
Wilson posted an Instagram video of her singing a few hours after her husband’s post.
“Gotta love them flaws and all,” she captioned the video of her singing her song “Broken Man.”
Hanks says that during his time in self-isolation he’s “learned not to spread my Vegemite so thick,” but he’s also learned to hate a typewriter he travels with that he used to love. The brand name? Corona.

Well, gin rummy kinda sucks.
SOME of us, on the other hand, have found that they are missing one domino in their Mexican Train set and have torn apart the house looking for it. (I’m not in forced quarantine but I’m doing my part to keep my ass in my house.)
What’s a Mexican train set, and why are there dominos in it?
Heh, it’s a type of dominoes game. The dominoes go up to 12|12 and the game basically works like this: the user with the highest doubles plays it, and then everyone builds their own line of dominoes (or train) from that first double. (So, for instance, if a user has a 12|12, they would put that down, then everyone lays their own train starting with a domino with 12 on one side) If you don’t have a domino in your hand that you can play, you draw one, and if you can’t play it on your train, you have to “open” your train to all the other users (meaning they can now play on their train or yours) and pass your turn. You can only close your train when you can play on your own train again (sometimes you may want to keep your train open anyway, to increase the chance that you get some more variety in it – for instance, if the only domino you could play on your train was a 6|8, and you don’t have any other sixes or eights in your hand, you’d want to keep it open in hopes someone else will lay something that you can play off of).Then, just like with regular dominoes, the goal is to run out of your hand first, and then the remaining players’ hands are added up and their points are tallied. Lowest points at the end of the game wins.I have 0 clue why it’s called Mexican Train instead of just, like, Train, but I presume that, as in most things, the answer lies in racism.
Sounds fun! As for the name, yeah, I assume it’s called that for the same reason a Chinese fire drill is called a Chinese fire drill.
