Rapper Travis Scott has filed for the dismissal for several of the pending lawsuits against him in connection to the 10 deaths and hundreds of injuries during his set at Astroworld in Houston on November 5. Scott’s representation attests the performer “is not legally liable” for the tragedy.

So far, Scott has filed these dismissal requests for 11 of the lawsuits out of the nearly 300 filed in Harris County summing up to $2 billion in damages. One of the 11 suits Scott was filed by Bhaghu Shahani, father of Bharti Shahani, who from injuries sustained during the concert.

Scott has been named in these cases with several other defendants, including Drake, Live Nation, Scoremore, the venue NRG Park, and multiple security companies who worked the event. In the suits, Scott has been primarily accused of negligence.

In documents filed in court on Monday, Live Nation and its subsidiary ScoreMore, who serve as Astroworld’s promoters, denied all the allegations against them. Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation, which owns venue NRG Park, made the same claim as well. So far, none of the companies have requested dismissal of the cases.

In order to consolidate the hundreds of filed lawsuits, the involved attorneys filed a joint motion to Texas’ Supreme court requesting the cases be overseen by one judge to help simplify legal proceedings. The Houston Police Department and plaintiffs’ attorneys both have ongoing investigations into Astroworld to find out exactly what went wrong and who is most culpable for the deadly crowd surge.

Meanwhile, half of the families of those who died at the event turned down Scott’s offer to cover funeral expenses, saying the public offer “lacks any personal touch” and reads really “inappropriate to the magnitude of the tragedy that unfolded.” The family’s attorneys say they would rather allow the courts to decide.

“I contend that those concertgoers had been asphyxiated BEFORE entering the venue.”

Just another example of a BIPOC artist being scapegoated and gaslit by a white supremacist legal system.

Oh, you can just declare yourself not legally liable? Why hadn’t anyone else ever thought of that?

And now we know why he was so hellbent on paying their funerals.

Speaking of legal issues, I wonder why you guys aren’t covering the insanity that is the Jussie Smolett trial.

How is he legally liable? Like at all?Trump doesn’t seem to be in jail for Jan 6th, so I’m not sure how Scott can be liable for this, even if he said “Lets all rush the stage!”

Travis and his family, especially his mom, are very well connected with government and politics in Texas. So I wonder if maybe he is taking his shot. I also wonder if this is why many of the families rejected his offer to pay funeral costs.
Yes the lawyer of every guilty defendant will try to get charges dismissed. They are doing their job, but also people in Texas know how well connected Travis is, and they know how he and his girl and their child enjoy a life only a few have. Meanwhile the families of people who died at at his concert know their loved ones will not get to live any life at all.
It would not be surprising if many of the victims’ families are rejecting Travis’s offer to cover funeral expenses because the only Justice is probably to deny him any peace of mind. The peace of mind that comes with “trying make it right” when Travis does not deserve this luxury. He had plenty of reasons to be cautious beforehand and prevent this. Yet he refused to just stop the show for a second at the first sign of trouble and pause his livestreaming until he confirmed his fans were safe.
People paid to be there and support Travis’ career in his own damn hometown. They trusted him, and were proud of him, and he’s doing them so dirty. This is the kindest way to say it. Also thank you for telling the troll in an earlier reply to eff off. I replied to you instead of feeding the troll haha.

It’s almost impossible to put into words how totally routine and uneventful it is for a civil defendant to file a motion to dismiss a complaint, but I guess here is where we are.
