This is what you might call a win-win situation. Maybe even a win-win-win.

That there is a video in which the audio track, a direct pull from the first trailer for Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, serves as base around which a new Baby Driver trailer is cut—but one made exclusively from footage from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It is, first and foremost, pretty funny and surprisingly applicable, so well done, YouTuber Carnage-Boy.

The first win: Pod Racing! The Phantom Menace has its defenders—we know one!—but even its detractors would be likely to begrudgingly acknowledge that the Pod Race is one of the best scenes in the film. Now imagine multiple Wright-directed pod-racing scenes! With masks! And retro tunes! Anakin races to a Cantina playlist! That would be amazing.

The second win: This subs Liam Neeson for Kevin Spacey, which a) gives Neeson some threatening “I’ll break your legs” speeches, and b) removes at least the visage of Kevin Spacey from the proceedings.

The third win: Maybe the fact that you’re watching this video will lead you to click through to Carnage-Boy’s YouTube page. If you do, just look at what awaits you:

That, friends, is the work of a mad genius.

Baby Driver was not a good movie, and the pod-race scene is to fucking long in an already swollen flick.

That’s like saying that you’re one of the best students in remedial ed. Hell, the end credits rival the pod racing scene.

This is the Star Wars Special Edition that we need.

Really enjoyed this. These videos felt very “Old YouTube”.In fact, they were very reminiscent of a couple of videos I used to love that essentially recreated The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy trailers using Avatar the Last Airbender clips.

Every now and then, footage from “The Phantom Menace” crops up and reminds me of the stunned dismay with which I watched that movie in the theater. I reflect on those dark memories for a time, and then I get back to the hard but rewarding work of forgetting that Jar Jar Binks was ever a thing.

To quote a dead celebrity I didn’t even like: “Fuck Baby Driver.” Also, that stupid and tedious pod race was just another of the many rusty nails that truly awful movie hammered into my soul. Goddamnit, I still get angry about it and I don’t even care about Star Wars.

I am sorry but the way he used the Michael Myers masks gag from Baby Driver in this was brilliant.

Those are amazing. It never ceases to amaze me the kind of creativity people put out into the internet.
