Uh-oh, someone at Marvel Studios messed up and seemingly leaked Blade‘s release date
Marvel India's Twitter included the forthcoming film starring Mahershala Ali on a list of upcoming releases

Marvel Studios is giving Blade the movie he deserves, with Mahershala Ali playing the human-vampire hybrid hero. The studio hasn’t shared much about the movie’s development, only that Ali is set to star and that Bassam Tariq is directing the flick. But it looks like the movie’s coming far sooner than expected.
On Tuesday, the official Marvel India page tweeted out a graphic that included some MCU upcoming releases and their premiere dates, listing Blade as coming out on October 7, 2022. All the other release dates were already confirmed, including Eternals, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, and The Marvels. But it looks like someone at Marvel messed up by including Blade on this particular graphic, because the tweet was promptly deleted.
While some MCU fans are skeptical of the movie coming out so soon (especially since it’d been said that shooting begins next year), it’s plausible that the tweet was deleted because Marvel Studios wanted to make a formal announcement of the release date through the main social media accounts. Perhaps something accompanied by a poster or teaser; something to drum up more excitement.
Blade movie director Tariq recently did an interview with Flickering Myth where he talked a bit about working on the film. “I didn’t think [Blade] was going to happen, just to be very honest,” Tariq admitted. “I’m honored and it’s a privilege, but I’m here in service of Stacy Osei-Kuffour, who is the incredible writer that is writing the film… She’s just a phenomenal presence and a juggernaut in her own right. And for Mahershala [Ali]. For me, it’s really just working in their service.”
Wesley Snipes initially played Blade in 1998, with the movie becoming Marvel’s first big hit after the massive failure that was Howard The Duck. The movie got two sequels, Blade: II and Blade Trinity. Then, in 2006, Spike TV made the short-lived Blade: The Series, starring Kirk “Sticky Fingaz” Jones as the titular character.
Update: As Deadline reporter Justin Kroll confirmed on Twitter, Blade doesn’t start shooting until 2022, so the leaked release date was the one that was initially set for the movie, then changed to October 6, 2023.

It’s my understanding that the director said the movie doesn’t even start shooting until July 2022.
Blade already got the movie he deserves. Twice. Man, the extent to which most media fawns over Marvel is really bonkers at times.
The October 2022 date was removed earlier this year and they added an October 2023 date.https://deadline.com/2021/05/marvel-movie-release-date-changes-eyes-of-tammy-faye-disney-theatrical-1234766379/An untitled Marvel movie moves off of Oct. 7, 2022 to Oct. 6, 2023The most probable outcome is that this was a scheduled tweet set up a long time ago that someone forgot to delete before it got sent out.
Or someone did a quick proof-read of the graphic and didn’t notice that the year was wrong.
Damn it, Tom Holland, not again!
Blade got the movie he deserved, it was called Blade 2, and it rocked.
Hell, the first movie was more than a character like Blade deserved, and the second just took it even farther.
Maybe they deleted the tweet because it was incorrect.
You know the old saying: “So goes Marvel India, so goes the world.”
Blade is finally getting the movie he deserves? Um, look, maybe you watched a different Blade than I did but that first movie was pretty damn good considering it didn’t have the present-day version of the Marvel juggernaut behind it.I’m glad to see him back and I think Mahershala is going to be amazing but let’s knock it off with the shade of the original or even 2. It’s open season on 3, though, that was some nonsense.
#1 was very solid entertainment – a quintessential popcorn flick.#2 had unexpected depth and nuance, plus some really cool sequences. Guillermo del Toro FTW.#3 … well, it exists.
#3 is definitely the least of them, but I find it entertaining. I have a soft spot for Reynolds. (Yes, I fully acknowledge that if you don’t enjoy his schtick, you won’t enjoy this, but I do, so I find the movie fun, if comparatively crappy.)
Yeah, if you look at the cast they were working with that movie should have been amazing – Snipes, Purcell, Reynolds, Biel, Patton Oswalt, Parker Posey, and Natasha Lyonne?!?!? How could you possibly fuck that up?And then they went ahead and did, proving once again that David S. Goyer is a hack on the level of Weiss and Benioff. Someone needs to take his crayons away. But Reynolds’ delivery subtexted all the dialogue as jokey, they wrote a shitty version of Dracula, Biel was stiffer than Woody in Toy Story, Lyonne and Oswalt were fodder, the plot was painfully unimaginative, and unfortunately for all involved Wesley Snipes had started to lose his mind (there are plenty of articles on his bizarre behavior on set but links are broken, thanks Kinja). If anyone wants to know where the origin of the horrifically bad writing for the DCEU originated, look no further.
The problem with Blade 3 is that villain was a doughy, middle-aged grumpy white guy who couldn’t be bothered to actually do anything.
To this day I’ve never seen Blade 3 and I have no intention of ever seeing it.
But Parker Posey, with fangs… in her vagina… …Which we never see because Verhoven didn’t direct it. But still… Vaginal fangs…
Have you seen Teeth (2007)? I think you’d like that movie.
Hell to the NO. There’s a distinct difference between a small pair of fangs and Teeth.Teeth is my Blade 3.
Yep, the first two Blade movies are solid. Considering this one is gonna be some MCU PG-13 combined universe crap. I am not sure anyone deserves thatEditors note: I love the MCU for what it is but I think Blade isn’t a great fit for it. Now if they started a spin off MCU Nights line with dark, R Rated movies. That could work a lot better
I’m wondering if they’re going to use Blade to test the waters for darker, closer to R rated movies before the release a Disney version of Deadpool on an “unexpecting” public?
if i were a betting man i would say they’re going big and crazy (dr strange 2, thor 4, ant man 3, black panther 2, guardians 3) and then doing a little counter-programming in there somewhere with blade and deadpool 3, which will be r rated. wouldn’t be shocked if blade features a little deadpool post credits sequence.
Speaking of lame, we have the bad guys. We have wrestler Triple H (who cannot act), Parker Posey (who cannot talk with the fangs in her mouth) and best of all Dracula (Who calls himself Drake. Thinks he is in a Highlander movie. He is also a pacifist piece of Eurotrash that looks like he fell off a Harlequin romance book cover. And is easily the least convincing screen Dracula I have ever seen (I’m including both George Hamilton and Mel Brooks in this equation)).
No offense, but a cursory amount of research would reveal that this is an old date before they shifted the production schedule. Again, no offense, but is there any sort of vetting before putting up articles like this?
But what does this mean for the Vampiric Council?
Snipes will be Grand-sired in, as he should be.
Release a vampire movie in October? Those Disney execs are geniuses. Bonus money all around.
Marvel Studios is giving Blade the movie he deserves
Yeah the first two Blade movies are excellent anre hold up really well. The third is kind of shit but there you go.
Blade Trinity is a complete mess and does suck, but it’s not an unfun watch, if only for Ryan Reynolds and Parker Posey.
reynolds is why that movie is so terrible, actually
Side note the Blade Trinity final fight set stayed exactly in place and was a standing Stargate Atlantis set for years
My brother unintentionally insulted Ryan Reynolds in the Westfield at Parramatta during the promotion for this film in Australia.
They should remake Blacula also. Oh yeah, fuck remakes of anything. No damn imagination anymore. “Shakes fist at cloud”.
Some social media account managers are always trying to ice skate uphill.
Since when is leaking a release date a big deal?
…on the one hand I don’t want to in any way endorse remaking a perfectly good movie, on the other hand, I love Mahershala Ali.
