We’ve spent a lot of time singing the praises of physical media recently, mostly because huge streaming services can’t disappear an actual piece of plastic from your collection at the drop of a hat. But there are a lot more benefits to actually owning your favorite shows. One big one: bonus features! Remember cozying up on a Sunday morning to watch some bonus features? The world is a less fun place since those went away.

Despite all the mess currently plaguing Marvel Studios, they’re still an innovative force in at least one field: the fight to bring back the bonus feature. As such, WandaVision’s new Steelbook, which released today, contains a number 0f cast and crew interviews, a blooper reel (!), and two deleted scenes, one of which confirms a long-standing fan theory.

WandaVision | On Blu-ray | Ankle Bracelet Deleted Scene

Think back to 2021, when WandaVision actually aired. (Spoilers if you’re cool and have been waiting for the Blu-ray release to actually watch the series.) Evan Peters was initially introduced as his X-Men character Quicksilver, a.k.a. Wanda’s brother Pietro (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the MCU), but it was revealed by the end of the series that he was actually just a regular guy named Ralph Bohner who had been enchanted by Agatha along with the rest of the town. After the series ended, fans theorized that Bohner was actually the missing witness that Randall Park’s Agent Jimmy Woo had followed to Westview in the first place.

This is confirmed in the above clip, which features a shot of Peters’ Bohner running into the frame and snipping off his ankle bracelet with a pair of bolt cutters. Maybe it was Agatha (who appears in her own deleted scene flirting with a cop) who removed this little bit of context all along.

WandaVision is now available on Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook and Blu-ray Steelbook.

    Heh. Bohner.

8/9ths of a perfect series. They couldn’t stick the landing (or, when I’m feeling uncharitable, they chickened out), but who can these days? Vince Gilligan and that’s about it. I might have to hint to my s.o. that I want this.

i do think them having to adhere to the earliest of covid shooting regulations also must have effected it. made me laugh when the army showed up and there was only ever 5-6 of them on screen.

    • ultimatejoe-av says:

I’d argue they nailed the landing on Loki, the problem with that series was that 2/3 of everything that came before it was filler.

    • tscarp2-av says:

If Vision and Vision had exchanged, say, two punches, then arrived at how pointless it was, it would’ve changed the whole tenor. And all those FX guys could’ve gone to help make She-Hulk look less PS2.

    • poopjk-av says:

I am genuienly still annoyed by how badly they whiffed the landing. Even the generic sky-battle would have been fine but that very last conversation between Wanda&Monica so throughly undermined everything that had been built in 8 episodes I fucking screamed. One legendarily poorly thought-out line was enough to just drop a turd on the whole project.

    • hendenburg3-av says:

Vince Gilligan and that’s about it
I don’t think “Walter White’s remote-control machine gun” counts as “sticking the landing”

      • michelle-fauxcault-av says:

Different strokes, different folks. I didn’t a shit enough about that one plot point to discount all of “Felina”. I thought it was a wonderful final episode to top off an excellent final season. Then Gilligan topped himself with Better Caul Saul and “Saul Gone” (again, your mileage may vary).

  • ryanlohner-av says:

It always felt really weird that they set up such a pointlessly complex excuse for Jimmy to be there. This at least gives some kind of closure to it.

  • billix0-av says:

I overall loved this show. But the reveal of Ralph stands as one of the most mystifyingly bad ideas in the history of the MCU. While the multiverse things seems to already be wearing out its welcome, at the time it was totally unexpected to have a Fox X-Men character turn up like that. It was intriguing and opened up so many possibilities. And for it all to turn out to have been a gotcha culminating in dick joke was just bizarrely bad writing. I half suspect they filmed most of Evan Peters’ stuff and couldn’t reshoot when an exec shot down the idea, so they had to hastily undo it somehow.

  • djclawson-av says:

They punked us so hard with that casting it is unreal.

  • nameofusr-av says:

Between the unnamed witness turning out to Ralph and that scientist Monica kept talking about turning out to be… I actually still don’t know, this show had an odd habit of mounting a gun on the wall and not just not firing it, but acting like you were stupid for noticing it in the first place.

  • igotlickfootagain-av says:

I never needed to know who the witness is. Woo is a federal agent, he needs a reason to be in a small town, so that’s it. As story contrivances go, I’ve seen plenty that hold up to scrutiny a lot worse.

  • sveedy-av says:

Why would a witness to a crime be wearing an ankle bracelet?  I thought those were for people who were under house arrest?  May be I’m missing something with that one?

  • drpumernickelesq-av says:

I’m sure lots of people would have loved seeing Peters’ Bohner running into frame.(I can’t believe I’m letting that dumb dick joke win but here we are.)

  • capper007-av says:

That does not look like Evan Peters to me. I don’t know who it was, but it wasn’t the Bohner character. It’s just some random guy.

What’s funny is Ralph being a missing witness (thus important to Jimmy) sets him up to actually be somebody else with “Ralph” being an alias.Could even tie it back to why Agatha chose his house when she could have used anybody’s.

  • heybigsbender-av says:

it was revealed by the end of the series that he was actually just a regular guy named Ralph Bohner who had been enchanted by Agatha along with the rest of the town.Didn’t Wanda enchant the whole town as a result of her grief over losing Vision and Agatha was drawn to the use of that much power and came to see what was up? But, then maybe that’s just what Agatha wants me to think before she pops out from my basement to sing a new verse from Agatha All Along.

  • tedturneroverdrive-av says:

I assume the new white Vision would show up at some point in the MCU, but it sure doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen…

    • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

hey i assumed shang-chi might show up again, too but here we are.

      • bc222-av says:

I assume Shang-Chi and White Vision are going to team up to address the GIANT HAND sticking out of the earth at the end of Eternals that has never been mentioned in any other MCU movie.

        • badkuchikopi-av says:

I never understood the giant hand complaint. Like why in any of the subsequent movies would it have come up? I think it is mentioned in the news in the background in…she hulk? For whatever that’s worth. If the characters of this world should be discussing anything that occur during the eternals shouldn’t it have been the giant dude who appeared in the sky and vowed to return and cast judgment on earth?

          • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

frankly, i just want to be rewarded as an audience member. if you’re not gonna address or follow-up any of this stuff for years and years what are we even doing here anymore haha.

          • mifrochi-av says:

There are movies that reward their audiences by fitting a complete story into two hours. Just had to put it out there.

          • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

oh there are movies that are all kinds of lengths, actually!

          • badkuchikopi-av says:

Fair, but I’m not sure what the payoff to a giant dead alien hand would look like. As I said above the thing that should pay off is Asherim(?) appearing in the sky and talking shit. I still suspect it will, but not until Eternals 2.I would watch a show in the vein of the leftovers where people question their faiths and rethink their place in the universe following the revelation that their planet was essentially an egg and their understanding of god was totally wrong. but they’re just not those kinda movies/shows.

          • poopjk-av says:

*raises hand*I wish there was a show that could dedicate an episode to sitting on a faux aircraft carrier at sea near the Hand, discussing all the crazy work it is taking to prevent pirates&mercenaries&goverments from fucking with the Hand, how it has radically changed weather patterns across the glove or disrupted century old shipping routes, all while wrapping up a Monster-of-the-Week with a low budget guest star from the Eternals. You could call it Something Something of Shield.

        • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

they say that’s gonna be a plot point for captain america 4, but they’ve also removed captain america 4 for retooling so who knows.

    • badkuchikopi-av says:

I bet cause they delayed Armor Wars. I realize he doesn’t like…wear armor. But that seemed like the next logical place for him to pop up to me.

  • weedlord420-av says:

Somethingsomething Mephisto something something Reed Richards…

  • rigbyriordan-av says:

“which features a shot of Peters’ Bohner”Tee hee hee.

  • egerz-av says:

This was still manipulative stunt casting if the explanation was anything other than “he’s literally Quicksilver from the Fox X-Men universe.” The reason he was in town is totally irrelevant — if he’s not supposed to be the other Quicksilver, then this subplot is just a meta tease which doesn’t go anywhere. They could just as well have gone ahead and brought in Ian McKellan as a mailman named Erik while they were at it.

    • jizbam-av says:

Budget restrictions, I guess. But you’re right, that would have been fantastically manipulative.

    • dr-frahnkunsteen-av says:

Viewed through the lens of Wandavision’s fascination with TV tropes I don’t think egregious stunt casting really crosses any lines here.

    • necgray-av says:

Given how aggravating all the synergy bullshit is around these Marvel IP shows and movies I really enjoyed it. And I delight in anyone’s pissiness about it. Did you feel teased? GOOD. I hope it annoyed you and everyone else who gives a shit about all the interconnected nonsense.

    • mistermusic-av says:

I thought it was a fun commentary on the classic TV trope of stunt casting or a special guest of the week. The problem is dorks have to have everything fit nicely together and lost their minds when it wasn’t some backdoor pilot for the X-Men.

    • poopjk-av says:

Nah, I rather enjoyed it as part and parcel of the way the show was playing with the meta-narrative of sitcom tropes&ciches.

  • randytfletcher-av says:

On Monday, AV Club sister site Deadspin uploaded an article accusing a child of wearing blackface to a Kansas City Chiefs game, a claim that was quickly debunked. Today the site updated the article, but still failed to correct the erroneous claim.

To me this suggests that G/O Media websites not only publish false information, but stand by it, and therefore cannot be trusted. I will no longer be reading AV Club or any of its sister sites, and I strongly suggest any who continue to do so fact-check their claims vigorously. Please help stop the spread of misinformation!
