Watch a surprise trailer for a surprise The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild sequel

Aux Features The Legend of Zelda

The end of today’s Nintendo Direct presentation from E3 came with a major surprise: a brief trailer for a sequel to The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, which is now in development.

There’s not too much in the way of details in here. We see Link and Zelda exploring a cavern by torchlight, and some sort of evil appears to be unleashed upon Hyrule, as is its wont. Given the art style and that we see a wide shot of what appears to be the same version of Hyrule from the first game, it’s possible that this game will build upon its predecessor’s existing map and assets, similar to how Majora’s Mask did with Ocarina Of Time.

The original Breath Of The Wild came out back in 2017, and was one of the best games ever made, so a return to this version of Hyrule will be very welcome for most gamers. (Those who prefer a more traditional dungeon-crawling Zelda experience will have to satisfy themselves with the upcoming Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake.)

There’s no word yet on when to expect this sequel, but it looks like sooner or later we’ll get the chance to get electrocuted and fall off a mountain all over again.

I played the ever-loving shit out of Breath of the Wild, and this looks to be a moody and creepy continuation of what made that one so great. How awesome.

I’m seriously holding my thumbs up for the first proper Link/Zelda co-op gameplay and/or switching between the two characters to deal with different obstacles.

I hope this game finally confirms that Zelda is the boy.

Maybe this one will actually have an ending

I hate to make everything about me, but I go 15 years without picking up a Nintendo console. Nintendo releases… Skyward Sword and Hyrule Warriors?I finally bought a Switch back in March, and now they’re like, “Oh my god, he’s back! Our old friend, Implied Kappa! We’re gonna do so much Zelda stuff, IK! Can we call you IK? Here, here, here! We’re gonna remake Link’s Awakening! You like that one, right? And… and, and, and… Curse of the Linkromancer! Triforce of the Necromancer? Swords… of the… Cuccomancer…?“Ah geez, that’s kind of a weird one… stupid, stupid Nintendo. No, I know we can impress you. We can do this! This isn’t gonna be like the Virtual Boy. We gotta do, like… ah… um… Breath of the Wild 2! Yes! And the other two things we said! We’re doing it all! More Zelda! Nothing’s too good for our old pal, Implied Kappa!”And I’m like, “Chill, Nintendo. I’m already back in the club. Just make more 2D Metroids and we’re cool.”

Considering that they have the entire overworld finished already from the first game, they very well could add a bunch of dungeons to this one, especially with the “oh crap, we found bad shit underground” vibe of this trailer.

My prediction – and fervent hope – is that this introduces an Underworld Hyrule for ‘Breath of the Wild’, like in ‘Link Between Worlds’. They can essentially double the map of the first one while adding in all sorts of new environments and settlements.

Annnnd I just bought a Switch.
I held up until now because I got to play BotW on WiiU and that was good enough, but god damn this is just too much.

  • it-has-a-super-flavor--it-is-super-calming-av says:

Huh. So we get to make our own dungeons and play as Linkle or Zelda in BotW on Cemu, and then Nintendo comes along and says “Hold my Lon Lon milk.”
