Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, September 17. All times are Eastern. Let’s hope you cleared out your DVR over the weekend.

Top pick

The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards (CBS, 8 p.m.): Well, it’s been quite a TV year, and we can’t wait to see how all of it plays out tonight. The powerful female-driven casts of Big Little Lies and Feud: Bette And Joan squaring off in the mini-series categories! This Is Us possibly bringing the Best Drama trophy back to network TV, or The Handmaid’s Tale taking it for Hulu! Julia Louis-Dreyfus probably giving yet another acceptance speech! The A.V. Club will be live-blogging it all from our offices, and we hope that you will watch with us. TV editor Erik Adams has promised to bring the whiskey again.

Regular coverage

BoJack Horseman (Netflix)
Adventure Time (Cartoon Network, 7 p.m.): Oliver Sava will take a look at the four new episodes running tonight.
The Orville (Fox, 8 p.m.)
Outlander (Starz, 8 p.m.)
The Deuce (HBO, 9 p.m.)
The Strain (FX, 10 p.m.): Series finale! Thank you Kyle Fowle for your Strain service.
Vice Principals (HBO, 10:30 p.m.): Luckily Kyle is ready to jump right back into the thick of things with the second season premiere of Vice Principals.
Rick And Morty (Adult Swim, 11:30 p.m.)

Wild card

The Vietnam War (PBS, 8 p.m.): We choked up after viewing a five-minute preview of this new Ken Burns/Lynn Novick PBS series. Kevin Pang watched the whole 18 hours, and had only good things to say about this compelling, necessary production, scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It’s not an easy watch, but undoubtedly an important one, especially in our current age of public protests and rapidly shifting levels of global stability.
