After the last season of Steven Universe ended, it seemed like there wasn’t much more for the show to do—Steven saved the world, and was at peace with himself. But Steven Universe: The Movie, which picked up two years later, made it clear that the show was interested in what comes after happily-ever-after. And Steven Universe is going to keep exploring what comes next: At the show’s New York Comic Con panel today, Cartoon Network premiered the title and opening sequence for the show’s upcoming sixth season, Steven Universe: Future. Here’s the official tagline for the season:

After saving the universe, Steven is still at it, tying up every loose end. But as he runs out of other people’s problems to solve, he’ll finally have to face his own.

In this new season and second change to the title sequence, Steven can now drive. There appear to be some newly menacing Gems, including Jasper and someone who looks a bit like a pink version of White Diamond. And, in an acknowledgment of the ensemble show Steven Universe has become, the final shot now features Peridot, Lapis, Greg, Connie, and Bismuth in addition to the original core of Steven, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl.

Watch the new opening for Steven Universe: Future below.

okay this show is for arrested development loser and the people I lovingly refer to as “spazzes,” and yes it’s infantile and extremely embarrassing, but there is something sort of soothing about it. Maybe the retards are right?

Just as cute and charming and queer (maybe more on that) as ever, and I’m definitely not getting weepy just from the thought that *this show exists* for the tenth time or so in the show’s run.

Show Pearl on a date with Mystery Girl!

Peridot at the tail end of the video makes me so happy! Great job, dorito-head.Really interesting shot of the potential villians (soon to be Steven-allies): We can definitely see Jasper’s not bought into the happy-go-lucky tidepool version of herself we saw at the end of the 5th season, there looks to be a huge, White-Diamond-esque threat (evil version of her?), I see two Lapises (Lapises?) flying in the top left corner, with a giant, scorpion-like gem we haven’t heard from yet. And hopefully we get more Spinel! Thank god (Rebecca) that we get more of this show.

If I know my anime/cartoon opening villain shot rules, that big monster in the back is probably the boss of the lot.

Spinel coming in late again with “Here we are in the future” is just fantastic. 💗(I don’t know why I said Spinel when I was looking right at Peridot; stupid brain fog)

The only thing missing is the promise of a blu-ray box set for me to buy and own before the show limps off into obscure memory like Juniper Lee and so many other classics…

    • swagstallion-av says:

I only caught a few episodes of Juniper, but it looked pretty neat from what little I saw.

May never happen, sadly. Adventure Time finally got a complete series release, on freakin’ DVD only. The only way to get the whole thing in USA on Blu is to order the later seasons on an all region sets through Amazon, and they aren’t even Warner Brothers releases, have less basic disc features and seemingly no special features: https://www.amazon.com/Adventure-Time-Seasons-Jeremy-Shada/dp/B07NW75TB4/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8I see Steven Universe getting the same crappy treatment, unfortunately. Cartoon Network and Disney Channel just don’t seem to care about the physical market for their shows beyond the cheap non-season collections of episodes they can get parents to buy at Walmart.

Missed opportunity to call it steven universe shippuden

  • marshalgrover-av says:

    I like it!

  • bembrob-av says:

In the future, Greg is still the most chill dude in Beach City.

  • swagstallion-av says:

I don’t know why, but happy Blue Diamond makes me smile.

I wonder if Spinel will make it farther than just the opening credits, which is still actually kind of a feat for characters from movies based on an animated series.

Enemies look interesting. Ominous Lapis, Scary Steven Cactus, Mystery Diamond, Bigass Dragon and Aqua”youknewidbeback”Marine. Looks like Jasper still has no chill.

  • roboyuji-av says:

I just noticed that one of the things with Jasper is some sort of conjoined (fused?) Watermelon Steven monster.

    Six seasons and a movie!

  • taumpytearrs-av says:

Hell to the fuck yeah! I still haven’t even seen the final season and movie, because I have been waiting forever for it to come to Hulu (or blu-ray, which will probably never happen). Even though I still have a bunch of episodes and a movie left, I was still bummed about it ending. Now I have another season took look forward to in 2-3 years when it hits Hulu!
