Yellowstone’s fifth season has been a testament to the power and inevitability of change, and the futility of resisting said change. In the first half of the season, most of the main characters took on new roles to solve old problems. With many of those characters suffering from a heavy dose of shortsightedness, their moves met with varying degrees of success. As he does in every season of Yellowstone, showrunner Taylor Sheridan infused plenty of drama into the Dutton’s never-ending conflicts over family and land. Here are the best and wildest moments from the first half of season five, moments which left us with only two words: “Wow. Really?”

In the first episode of the season, Monica goes into labor while Kayce is out of town. Monica and Tate then decide that, despite her actively hard contractions, they should jump in the car and speed down a very, very dark road in the middle of the night to meet an ambulance “halfway” to the hospital. What in the actual hell? Don’t the Duttons own a helicopter? I mean, what’s the worst that could happen, that her car and a pickup truck going in the opposite direction hit a buffalo at the same time? Yes. Exactly that.

    Boomers love them some Yellowstone

Man oh man, I’m not even a vegetarian, let alone a vegan, and no you don’t speak for all of us when you take some weird pleasure in one of them getting punched into changing their diet.  What the fuck.  If the show wasn’t as celebratory of this as the listicle item was, hooray.

I thought this show takes place in the past?(I don’t know. It comes on a channel to which I don’t subscribe.)

You’re thinking of Yellowstone B.C., in which Og Dutton opposes those seek to take control of his acres of dirt and rocks. It’s a tough job but as his trash compactor might say, “Hey, it’s a living!”

I really thought the show was about the time when they were forming the national park and I assumed Costner was pro-park because that’s his vibe, while his neighbors were fighting against the government acquiring so much land.

What is it with Piper Perabo playing vegan caricatures with bad taste in men? She did it on House and now this.

I just don’t understand Yellowstone. Maybe that’s what intrigues me about it. Some of the writing seems genuinely smart, but then they’ll add in something so stupid or on-the-nose it makes you question whether you ever saw that smart writing in the first place. Also, the Dutton family – am I supposed to be rooting for these absolute dickheads? They seem to use their power and wealth to stomp all over the communities around them, and just murder anyone in cold blood who disagrees. Then you seem to get episodes asking the audience to be sympathic towards them. That whole vegan storyline, and how John Dutton was proven right about eating meat, and actually converted the hippy, is the perfect microcosm of the strange way the writers approach things. I’m not a vegan, but fucking hell.Weird show.

the writing of summer and monica this season was terrible
summer doesnt understand anything outside of being an environmentalistmonica is suddenly a dutton apologist and ally, despite her being only an ally of casey previously. They basically make both of these women staunch dutton supporters compared to their stance before, and it doesnt seem deserved based on their “new knowledge”.
