Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has re-entered rehab, forcing the band to cancel upcoming dates for their “Deuces Are Wild” Las Vegas residency. The announcement was posted to Aerosmith’s official Twitter page on Tuesday along with a promise of refunds for the canceled shows.

“As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years,” the band’s statement read. “After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery.”

The post continued, “We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must cancel our first set of Las Vegas residency dates this June and July while he focuses on his well-being. We will continue our 2022 dates starting in September, and we’ll let you know any further updates as soon as we can.”

It concluded, “We are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows. Thank you for your understanding and for your support for Steven during this time.”

As Variety reported, the 74-year-old rocker’s substance abuse issues saw him in and out of rehab centers throughout the 1980s. His last rehab stay, in 2009, also stemmed from health issues; he reportedly suffered from “severe chronic pain” due to orthopedic injuries, which led to a prescription painkiller addiction.

“What makes me an alcoholic is not how much I drank or how often I used, or who I did any of that with. It’s what happens to me and who I become when I do, and I don’t like that guy,” Tyler reflected in a 2019 interview with Haute Living.

The “Deuces Are Wild” residency remains on the schedule for September to early October at MGM Live, as well as other fall performances in Maine and Massachusetts.

As I always thought their music sucked once they cleaned up (really, post 1980 but…) maybe they should have tried recording some tracks before shipping him to rehab? In all seriousness, good luck. Not a fan of the band personally but good on him to get clean. Again.

Probably would have needed Joe Perry to relapse as well to really make it work.  They didn’t call them the Toxic Twins for nothing!

The song Eat the Rich is good and from ‘93, but that’s about it.

Honestly, looking back, I like about half the first one, Get Your Wings is my fave,I like most of Toys and all of Rocks. Draw the Line is weak and it did not get better after that, although the first JPP album is pretty solid.

    • nothumbedguy-av says:

In my opinion, if you took certain songs from their first 3 comeback albums, 87 – 93, you’d get a solid Aerosmith album.

Problem was their biggest hits were their sillier songs like Love in an Elevator and Dude Looks Like a Lady, plus your typical power ballad, so they went hard into that style. They became a pop band and left their sleazier blues sound behind, which is where they killed.I’ll go with Toys in the Attic as their best album. Title track, Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion, No More No More and a guilty fave, Big 10 Inch Record. IMO you have that plus Classics Live Vol’s 1 and 2 and you’re golden (Train Kept a Rolling, Draw the Line and Let the Music Do the Talking being three of their best overall songs).

      • drew8mr-av says:

Those Classics Live albums sound like absolute ass though. I think 90% of everyone would be fine with the red Greatest Hits record and everyone else would be good with Wings,Toys and Rocks (which is only 26 songs).

        • bcfred2-av says:

I’ll cop to not having listened to any of them for a long time, and hadn’t taken that into account. I’m old enough to have them on tape so maybe it wasn’t evident. I mostly listened with an accompanying lawnmower roaring through my walkman headphones.

          • drew8mr-av says:

To be fair, on the record, both Same Old Song and Dance and Train Kept a Rollin’ were played by studio cats mostly, which is why they sound so good. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner played guitar and The Brecker Brothers band did the horns. Classics Live is Aerosmith for better or worse.

          • bcfred2-av says:

I prefer the live version of Train, so YMMV. But Aerosmith definitely got much tighter live once everyone cleaned up.

I didn’t like Greatest Hits because it included the radio versions of most of the songs.

        • hercules-rockefeller-av says:

Pump is solid from front to back, the non single tracks had more of their old school sound in my opinion. Get a Grip is goot if you don’t mind the more polished, pop sound.

          • bcfred2-av says:

I really liked Permanent Vacation, with the exception of Dude Looks Like a Lady, which of course was the runaway hit.  Most of the others sound like better produced versions of their earlier music.

I was under the impression they kept on filling the back halves of albums with greasy blues jams but just never pushed any of them as singles. Which seems fair enough, given that a power ballad’s way more likely to be a big radio hit than a greasy blues jam.

Never forget how awesome this song is. Best to Steven.

I just keep thinking of Brad Whitford on Steve Gorman’s podcast a few years back, and how he just seemed done with all of the drama within Aerosmith.

Steve’s book is great if you haven’t read it yet.

    • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

He should quit and go start a band with Sammy Hagar who is always drama-free unless you express skepticism about aliens visiting Earth.

      • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

He should just make a career out of starting bands with famous 2nd bananas?

        • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

Last time he quit Aerosmith he started a band with Derek St Holmes, so I figure he can work on down the line.

          • drew8mr-av says:

I always liked St. Holmes. If Nugent wasn’t such an idiot he would have kept that band. He desperately needed a singer and another songwriter.

    • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

I forget which book it was, but when they talked about reuniting the classic lineup, his comment was “Guarantee me X-dollars a year and I’m in.”

      • morbidmatt73-av says:

Didn’t Joey Kramer do the same thing and they were like, “Nah, that’s too much money?” I was surprised to see him in the picture above, I thought he had left the group over $ like 10 years ago.

    • morbidmatt73-av says:

Brad has always been the coolest member of Aerosmith to me. He lets Joe take all the flashy solos but when Brad gets to unleash, he RIPS. And he’s written some of their best songs, IMO.

I didn’t realize the Diners Drive-ins and Dives dude was in Aerosmith. Good for him.

Is anyone taking pages from RUSH? they retired with grace, style, class and one of the best final Album releases ever. Not this garbage.

    • mckludge-av says:

Well, they retired because Neil was sick and died. They didn’t all decide together that they were done.

      • morbidmatt73-av says:

I’m sure had Neil been healthy, they’d still be touring right now. Fans didn’t know he was sick until after he died, so it seemed like a graceful retirement at the time, but in hindsight, we know why they chose to retire now.

    • harpo87-av says:

      I think you meant REM.

    • jellob1976-av says:

Fuck grace and style. It’s not like you can enjoy those when you’re dead. I saw David Lee Roth at the Naperville Rib Fest about 10 years back, which is about a half step above the state fair circuit. Dude knew his place in the world and was having a ball on stage. If I had the talent/luck to be a rock star, I’d ride that career into the ground… And savor all those backstage grandma blowjobs at the tail end of my career.

Addiction doesn’t get cured, it only goes into remission. Good luck, Steven, and congratulations on this step.

exactly, and relapses are often just part of the reality of substance use disorders that nobody likes to admit. It doesn’t make an individual less committed to their recovery because they need extra help again.
