Billy Eichner to get loud, horny in romantic comedy from Judd Apatow

Aux Features Billy Eichner

Billy Eichner’s still doing his thing on the street, but the blunt-force comedian is positively swimming in high-profile acting gigs of late. Following his strong starring turn on Hulu’s Difficult People, Eichner pushed his boundaries as a utility player on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story and scored a plum gig voicing Timon in the upcoming Lion King reboot. Now, Deadline reports that Eichner will lead a romantic comedy for Universal.

The film, which will follow “two men who have commitment problems and are attempting a relationship,” will be directed by comedy veteran Nicholas Stoller, who cut his teeth helming Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Neighbors. Eichner will write in addition to starring in the feature, just as he’s slated to do with FX’s upcoming animated comedy Time Travelin’ Jerk.

Backing the entire endeavor is Judd Apatow, who announced just last week that he’d be directing a comedy of his own in the coming year. That one, a semi-autobiographical vehicle for Pete Davidson, is slated to open in 2020. Eichner’s project will arrive, we imagine, whenever he goddamned wants it to.

I will enjoy this movie if none of the character acknowledge that Eichner is shouting all his lines.

Maybe we can get a rom-com all about yelling starring Eichner and Leslie Jones.

“All the performances seemed awkward, as if they could only use the takes where his co-stars weren’t cringing.”

I think my favorite thing about the show Friends from College is seeing how far a silent Billy Eichner can go.

If he ends up dating a generic masc4masc gay, they could call it Billy and the Cloneasaurus

    Bring back Difficult People!

Even after all these years I’m still waiting for Judd Apatow to make something funny…

How do you write an article about Billy Eichner and Nicholas Stoller’s upcoming project and not mention Friends From College once? The new season is less than a month old, and its really good!

I really need to calibrate my humor because I find Eichner and Davidson both not funny. But it seems like everyone else thinks they’re very funny.

Eichner can be funny. I love Difficult People, and he had great chemistry with Julie Klausner on that. But that show was her thing, and I haven’t been sold on the stuff I’ve seen that he’s created (which basically means Billy on the Street). I also could have totally done without Craig on P&R. So I’d say there’s maybe a 32% change he could be entertaining in this? Depends a lot on who his love interest is.

Well, as long as they’re able to find some nice ladies to settle down with at the end.

I’ve never met or otherwise talked to anyone else in the entire world who thought that Billy Eichner was funny. He was so terrible that he pretty much ruined the last few seasons of Parks and Rec for me. How does he keep getting work?

Billy on the Street is solid gold. His version of the Thanksgiving Parade is among the best things on YouTube.

I understand completely why people hate Billy Eichner. He’s one of those people who you either love or hate instantly and your mind never changes.I’m in the ‘love’ category, but I begrudge no one in the other camp because I get it.

    • Burblotsky-av says:

Now you can no longer truthfully say that because I am here to blow your mind. Sans, I think that Billy Eichner is hilarious! I think the way he yells and the disdain he seems to have for everything is very, very funny!
