We may be in the dog days of summer, but 2020’s list of great new music isn’t slowing down in the least. All the way from rapper Aminé to singer Zella Day, there are great albums coming out in August that we can’t wait to get our hands on. (Yes, we’re mostly ordering the vinyl online these days, but consider doing it through your local record store to support small businesses.) This isn’t a comprehensive list of the month’s new releases—just the ones we’re most excited to hear.

Animated Portland rapper Aminé has been working on his upcoming album Limbo for years, penning tracks between his many travels. “I haven’t really gone this in-depth with my music in a while, so it feels good,” the “Caroline” performer said in a . Though he was hesitant back then to give too much insight into the forthcoming release, he’s since shared three laid-back tracks from the collection—“Shimmy,” “RiRi,” and Young Thug collab “Compensating.” The through-line that connects all three is a West Coast ease that billows with confidence. I cannot read this post. It jumps to the bottom as soon as I open it. If I scroll up to the top, once the whole thing loads (which takes forever) it jumps back to the bottom with the added headache of auto playing the Angel Olsen track, which is a good song but I’d like to listen to the other tracks on this list! Pretty infuriating.

I pre-ordered a lot of these LPs a while back. Completely forgot that they were all coming out this month. At least I have something to look forward to now, as I’m definitely not going to see any shows any time soon.

Bully is amazing & I can’t wait to hear the new music. This format is not amazing though- navigating it is comparable to gargling dogshit.

    • xaa922-av says:

You probably already know this, but Bully is a MUST SEE live act.

      • ifsometimesmaybe-av says:

I didn’t know that, thanks! They haven’t come through my parts yet, I hope I get the chance.

Alicia Bognanno is a force of nature. I saw them at a festival in 2018 which also included The Distillers on the bill. Brody Dalle was on the side of the stage just rocking out.

Don’t forget about Orville Peck! Show Pony is out August 14.

I’m just glad that Katy finally exorcised the demon that formerly possessed Miley Cyrus.

    Thanks for the fucking slideshow.

Kinja never loads properly in this slideshow format. I can only see the first comment, and then everything beneath it is cut off.I guess that means nobody will see this comment…I know where Amelia Earhart is.

    • ifsometimesmaybe-av says:

If you’re looking at it in a desktop browser, don’t look at the slideshows fullscreen- for some reason you can eliminate the billion pages down to one page by having a narrow window. I also find reloading the page a few times allows you to expand the comment section. All this to say kinja blows dog dick- they really need to fix their interface before a better site pulls all the community away-sweet lord, I hope Defector Media is successful enough to build multiple branches & poach everything from G/O.

      • merve2-av says:

Thanks for the tip. I was able to get the comments section to load properly when I narrowed my browser window, which indicates to me that they’re prioritizing mobile and tablet users. That would be understandable, except I can’t actually log in to Kinja on mobile: I go through the login process, and it’s successful, but I still appear logged out and can’t comment or star others’ comments.Kinja is a failure. It doesn’t work. It needs to be retired.

I think that might be the way this ends, is that they’re going to fuck it all up, declare it unimportant to the hedge fund’s goals, and nix the community. The major changes over the last while has made these sites more click-baity, and I’m guessing they just want to trim down to click-baity garbage. Deadspin’s current incarnation is probably what we’ll see getting push forward by the dumb fucking herbs.

I was due to see Bright Eyes here in the UK just after the album release, pretty gutted it got pushed back a year but the last thing we need right now is that sort of thing.Ticket still valid, so it’ll be even more fun next year.

    Slideshows are dumb.

Some of the worst music I’ve heard in a while. Thanks.

After reading Meet Me in the Bathroom, I have so much admiration for the Killers. Post-90s notions of credibility did a number on their peers, who weren’t all that gracious toward these non-New Yorkers who just wanted to make melodic music and get paid.

Thought I’d never see anything more from Secret Machines, especially post-Ben. Their In The Round tour in 2006 is still one of my favorite live music experiences ever. Can’t wait for that
