It’s a big weekend for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Doctor Strange returns with a new movie by director Sam Raimi, his first in nine miserable years. But even more importantly, in perhaps the biggest news to hit the MCU since someone decided that we had to show those Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies some respect, Rachel McAdams has come home.

Appearing for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2016, McAdams reprises her role as fan-favorite Dr. Christine Palmers. While fans and action figure manufacturers alike have been demanding the return of Dr. Palmers, McAdams thought she was a one-and-done MCU veteran.

Speaking to IndieWire, McAdams says she wasn’t expecting to return for the sequel. “I think there was a lot of script work being done, and then there was sort of a changing of the guard.” And even then, according to McAdams, it wasn’t certain. Even as rumors swirled about her return, she “was still in the dark, and then it was like, ‘Alright, I’m coming now, OK!”

Unfortunately, seeing as we get movies about 9,000 Spider-Men running around pointing at each other, McAdams rightly assumed she’d at least get to play three versions of Dr. Palmer in a movie about a friggin’ Multiverse Of Madness. Sadly, she was capped at two.

“It did change a little bit from what I was originally told, [which was] that it would be three different versions, and we wound up with two different versions in the end,” McAdams says. “But they said I’d be playing a very different version of the Christine Palmer I played in the first film, that I wasn’t an emergency room doctor, just a completely different person with a completely different life experience.” Very different is quite a stretch, but we’ll take as much McAdams as we can get.

Perhaps, Kevin Fiege thought movie theaters couldn’t handle the full-throated roar of a crowd experiencing that many Dr. Palmers. It’s a shame, though. We would’ve loved to see one of those viral videos of theaters going absolutely wild for every Dr. Palmer that enters the frame.

McAdams reprises her role as fan-favorite Dr. Christine Palmers. While fans and action figure manufacturers alike have been demanding the return of Dr. PalmersIs this sarcasm? Because when it comes to the MCU, I basically remember her as “someone who had a small role in a Marvel movie.”

      Well-spotted

I remember thinking “that’s all the screen time they’re giving to Rachel McAdams? Why did they bother?”I will, however, concede the possibility that fans of the comics might have a greater connection with her, but honestly, that’s not a large number of people.

Screw you, Christine is the best.

Also, even though there are Dr Christine Palmers, each one is called Dr Christine Palmer.

There probably is a queue for Rachel McAdams action figures. The characters she plays are not important to this fact.

    • franknstein-av says:

Hey, if the MCU continues on its current path, a small role in a Marvel movie will eventually guarantee her her own Disney+ Mini series, at the very least

I saw the movie last night and while walking back to the car I mentioned to my buddy that it was nice to see her play a bigger role this time around. She’s barely in the first movie, and I swear she has more screen time in the What If?… series than that movie.

MCU not knowing what to do with a character’s love interest is as shocking as them having 20 minutes of CGI battles at the end of their movies/TV seasons.

While true, this film kind of took that uncertainty to another level. Especially because it seems to expect the audiences just automatically feel like this was such a great missed connection for Stephen. Which made that post-credit scene hilarious for so many wrong reasons.Spoilers ahead, although I hated this film so much that it is hard not to just shout things. One of the really weird aspects of the film, and something that the McAdams is kind of hitting here, is that not only wasn’t really that much multiversal madness in the films, for some reason the movie seems to assert that everyone is pretty much the same in every universe. Like there’s no real difference character-wise with the Christine she plays on that other Earth compared to the main Earth.

Greetings, fellow hater.  Christ what a mess and waste of talent and two hours.  I did love the 3D effects though!

        • mifrochi-av says:

Waste of two hours? Were there thirty good minutes, or did you leave early?

          • hiemoth-av says:

Weird comment to make about a film that has an officially listed length of 126 minutes.Counter question. What did you watch that extra thirty minutes? The blank screen after the film ended?

          • mifrochi-av says:

I’m shocked. I just assume superhero movies are at least 140 minutes.

          • cosmicghostrider-av says:

An hour = 60 minutes, not 100 minutes… 126 is two hours. Idiot.

          • hiemoth-av says:

Normally I’d ignore your increasingly bizarre comments, but this level of math self-ownage is kind of epic.So let’s do basic calculation here. Initial comment states that the movie was a waste of two hours, which by math is 120 minutes. The comment then finds this odd as would that mean that there was a good thirty minutes there or did the person leave early. You can read that comment, with the direct implication being that they thought the movie was 150 minutes as they even admit to my response. So if the original listed lenght of the movie is 126 minutes, it’s close to two hours and thus be within the range of that wasted two hours. Just next time you feel the need to make some inane comment because someone didn’t sing blind praises of things you like, do some basic math in responses like this before writing them.Oh, sorry almost forgot fittingly to the personal insult dimension introduced here. You fucking moron. Was that better?

    • xpdnc-av says:

At least they didn’t fridge her.

      • pocrow-av says:

The MCU is pretty good about not doing that. I suspect Fiege has visited the Women in Refrigerators site or read the TV Tropes page at some point.

    • mifrochi-av says:

Rachel McAdams is truly the Natalie Portman of the MCU. So is Natalie Portman.

      • pocrow-av says:

Just two more Doctor Strange movies before McAdams finally gets super powers!

      • yesidrivea240-av says:

Naw, she had more to do in this movie than Portman ever did. That is, until the new Thor movie comes out.

  • ijohng00-av says:

she should have won an Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Regina George in Mean Girls

  • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

This is outrageous, even Carla Gugino got to play three versions of herself in the Jet Li multidimensional actioner The One!

  • avcham-av says:

I think folks are missing the point here, which is that that is one hell of a dress.
