10 times the Fast & Furious crew truly cheated death

From helicopter crashes to outer-space flights, these are the most absurdly dangerous moments—so far—from the Fast & Furious franchise

All right, we know that in every movie Dom Toretto and his crew find new and novel ways to avoid being killed … even though in real life they’d likely perish. But we don’t watch the Fast & Furious flicks for logic. It’s all about fast cars, fast quips, crazy stunts, and of course, familia.

That’s not to say they’re not aware of their good fortune. After improbably surviving a huge shootout during F9: The Fast Saga, Roman turns to Tej and ponders the absurdity of their situation and wonders how they keep on living. He declares, “We’ve now been on insane missions around the world, doing what most would say is damn near impossible. And I ain’t got one single scar to show for it?”

Will Fast X finally turn the franchise into a meta action vehicle? Who knows. But what we do know is that even for those of us who have seen every installment, there are times when our suspension of disbelief can only go so far. Yes, we kid because we love. But seriously, some of these scenes are whack.

This moment is not about a main character cheating death, just not killing other people. When an enraged Takashi goes after his friend Han for stealing from him, they race through the streets of Tokyo with Sean trying to run interference to save Han. When Sean winds up ahead of them, he finds himself about to bulldoze through a massive crowd of pedestrians. But thanks to his loud car horn and drifting skills he is able to slide through the curved intersection and avoid hitting anyone. As if. This also brings to mind the safe-dragging finale of in Rio. They crushed plenty of vehicles, but no innocent pedestrians were killed as they dragged that big vault through the crowded streets? C’mon.

I love how when they’re racing in a straight line going as fast as they can, there’s always that one extra gear (or two) that will make them go faster.

After the deluge of slideshows for the last Oscars, I was waiting for a “11 times our Oscar Slideshows totally nailed it!” Slideshow to complete the set.

It feels particularly weird when you consider….erm….you know…Paul Walker.

Vin Diesel cheats death every time he doesn’t eat the poison-laced candy-asses I keep leaving at his door.

Enough people have called out the rope-swing, and rightfully so. But I feel as though that ‘driving up a collapsing rope bridge’ part might actually be even dumber. Also – not part of the crew itself, but Cipher should probably get an honorable mention for surviving that nuclear submarine explosion.

I have never seen a single one of these movies but those clips were hilarious.

Remember on Succession when Kendall Roy talked about what they were going to do with this website called “Vaulter” – user created content, a bunch of interns, click-bait headlines….guess they missed the ‘slideshows’, huh?
