Finally, some good news: it seems Jamie Foxx is well on the way to recovery after being hospitalized with an undisclosed medical condition last month. In an Instagram Story posted on Friday morning, Foxx’s daughter Corinne Foxx dispelled reports that she and her family were “preparing for the worst” by offering a promising update on her father’s current condition.

“Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating,” Corinne’s post reads. “In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!”

In the same statement, Corinne also hints that the family has “an exciting work announcement coming next week too!” Jamie was hospitalized back in April in the midst of filming the Netflix rom-com Back In Action alongside Cameron Diaz; the two previously starred together in 1999's Any Given Sunday and the 2014 remake of Annie. The film, directed by Seth Gordon, also features Kyle Chandler and Glenn Close.

In an initial (now-deleted) Instagram on April 13, Corinne said her father had experienced a “medical complication” but was “already on his way to recovery” thanks to the appropriate care. CNN reported on April 18 that Jamie remained in the hospital. The status of Back In Action filming remains uncertain, although TMZ reported shortly after Jamie’s hospitalization that the production was using a stand-in on set to film in his stead. Netflix has yet to give Back In Action an official release date.

Since his hospitalization, Jamie has not made any public appearances, although on May 3 he shared a message via Instagram: “Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed.” The A.V. Club wishes Foxx a swift and smooth recovery.

Privacy is one thing but this is kind of cruel.

Pretty weird to not say anything weeks ago.

I know that plenty in media can run wild with things and can be cruel, but this has been going on for a couple of weeks now with quite a few reputable outlets and people that know Foxx all showing genuine concern yet at no point did Corrine or anyone close to Foxx come out and say, “It’s all good”. I find it hard to believe some reputable outlets didn’t bother to reach out to Foxx’s team for details on his condition since the initial report. Did they just turn them down the whole time and let these rumors run wild then? This doesn’t really strike me as media running wild. Sure, gossip rags, but they always do that, fuck them. But actual news organizations and entertainment news giants all reported on the story and you could have cleared up his condition with them at any time. If you put out that Jamie Foxx has been hospitalized, give no further information and stay silent the rest of the time, how are people going to know everything turned out fine if you don’t provide any further updates?

You make great points about this evolving story.. As a nurse, I’ve seen patients with mean$ discharged with comprehensive rehab services and staff, replicating a non-acute condition requiring full support care.. She mentioned “out of hospital for weeks and recuperating” could as easily mean a full medical staff and caregivers at home, therapy, lab, etc.. He has been pretty candid and plain spoken about medical issues including mental health related to substance abuse, yet his family is doing all the euphemistic updates and it makes me wonder —what the what?

I’m also a nurse and if someone wants to be euphemistic about their health, I don’t see why that shouldn’t be respected.

        • nurser-av says:

What is your point, fellow nurse? I never made any judgment, or showed disrespect as to the appropriateness of the veiled updates by the family, just speculating about the seriousness of the issue. The family are making these statements, not the patient, with respect to his current condition. You would think a guy out there playing Pickleball could make his own statements, euphemistic or no?

Who knows. Maybe he’s put his family in control of his affairs.
We’re not owed a statement from the guy.

“Jamie. I am your conscience. Stop taking drugs. Your goddamn 55 years old.”, Doug William maybe

  • akhippo-av says:

Doesn’t seem like she’s saying he’s home. And making a distinction between being in a hospital and being in a rehabilitation center. Still reads as the dude had a stroke and is recovering. Expect a bunch of statements about how he “defied the doctor’s expectations,” and “the doctors told us he wouldn’t recover this fast.” Add in some God/Jesus wank for good measure.

There’s been a rumor-treated-as-fact going around elsewhere on social media that Foxx “had a heart attack and/or stroke from getting angry enough at someone during an argument.”

    1. I’m not sure where they got this information from
    2. I’m not sure if that’s even how that works

    • oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopy-av says:

      2. Actually there is good evidence that heart attack risk greatly increases directly after someone has lost their temper. Often it’s flying into a rage that actually causes the cardiac. That increase in blood pressure/cortisol can push people over the edge. Although I’d take your rumour with a pinch of salt.
