Sure, he’s helping people put food on their tables and avoid getting evicted, but the real story is that he’s kind of annoying sometimes.

      – The A.V. Club, apparently

They were afraid of being seen as not hipster enough, despite Seth not even being as hated as he was during the Ted and 100 Ways to Die in the West years (that was like 10 years ago!) Seth has more than enough good karma from this, funding Cosmos, and the Orville

We can decide for ourselves who’s annoying.

  • i-miss-splinter-av says:

Nobody gives a shit if you find him annoying. You couldn’t just say that he did a good thing?
However you may feel about Seth MacFarlane as a person

I have no issues with MacFarlane, although you clearly do. Why you felt it necessary to tell everyone this meaningless tidbit, I’ll never understand.

    • browza-av says:

And I’m not sure how his charitable giving is not an aspect of him “as a person”.

    • oodlegruber-av says:

Because none of the current writers on this site have anything to offer besides snark. Barsanti, Schimkowitz, Carr, all of them – garbage, bottom of the barrel writers with no insight, no skill, no charm, just cheap and insipid sarcasm.

Some publicist loved bragging about Dwayne Johnson’s “seven figure” donation to the strikers:https://globalnews.ca/news/9854922/dwayne-the-rock-johnson-actors-strike-donation/Stating “seven figure” and being coy about the exact amount implies Johnson did the minimum: $1,000,000. If true, that makes MacFarlane five times the good guy as far as the strikers go.

I say this a lot, but why the fuck is this a video?

    • luasdublin-av says:

Because some suits still think “pivoting to video “ is a thing . No offence to the writer but I prefer written articles , its easier to read them in the bathroom in work without alerting everyone to the fact I’m skiving off.

      • argylepantsbottomiv-av says:

Just do like I do – read the blurb, look at comments, move on.  I never ever watch a video-thing like this.  I refuse.  And pivot-to-video – a great way to lose this guy fast.

  • director91-av says:

Headlines like this is why everyone hates this site now holy shit

  • BarryLand-av says:

He doesn’t annoy me, I didn’t know this was a thing.

  • heasydragon-av says:

My dear, darling prolapsed bottom of a fading Millennial – you might consider MacFarlane annoying but for the rest of us he’s doing a damned lot more than in this world than you ever would.  Now, shut up and make my burger.

    • argylepantsbottomiv-av says:

Yeah – honestly look at what he did with the Oroville – a “tribute” to the Star Trek of yore (yes with dirty humor mixed in) that managed to be better than 9 out of 10 Star Trek series ever were. The author may not like his humor (I don’t care for Family guy, or much of his stuff beyond Oroville) but he seems like a caring, funny guy from all I have heard – and sounds like he is doing something meaningful here, so the authors side-bash at him seems a bit off to me.

      • normchomsky1-av says:

The dirty humor in the Orville was in the first episode and that’s kind of it, it was clearly a way to trick Fox into greenlighting the show.

    • dodecadildo-av says:

Goddamn yours is a cringe comment.

    • heasydragon-av says:

To Lobbo Hobbo – darling, I don’t care if you think it’s “cringe”, just shut up and make my burger or get back to working that street corner for a quick buck, you pathetic troll.

  • senorfartcushion-av says:

    I like Seth MacFarlane

  • zeroine-av says:

Isn’t he an actor now? He did A million ways to die( I think), also Ted, Ted 2, and The Orville. That’s not counting his voice acting in Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad. Also a quick glance at his filmography shows no less than 59 acting roles(Most of which are voice acting but still.). How is he not considered an actor is he not a part of the guild?

  • drakkan-av says:

I now find you more annoying than I ever found Seth MacFarlane. I used to have a little respect for AV Club, but this has ruined that.
