Shaquille O’Neal goes undercover as a Lyft driver

How often have you sat in the backseat of a Lyft car and thought to yourself, “Man, if only my driver were four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal?” Well, in the most recent episode of Lyft’s YouTube series “Undercover Lyft,” a bunch of people in Atlanta got that very experience.

The series, which has previously featured two NFL players, an MLB player, and an actual race car driver, surprised riders with an at once heavily costumed and totally recognizable Shaquille O’Neal in the driver’s seat. The costumes range from a “bucket hat-wearing bracelet maker” to “being French,” and one thing is for sure: Shaq is having a great time, as is everyone else.

Aside from pulling an illegal U-turn in the middle of the road, Shaq is a model driver. He introduces “himself” immediately, he’s engaging, he’s funny, and he gets every passenger to their destination without any upset. One guy does seem intent on debating the merit of the 1996 film Kazaam, but what is life—or a Lyft ride—without some tension.

The NBA finals start tonight with the Golden State Warriors vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Shaq will be there to provide commentary and analysis throughout—if he can get himself there on time.
