Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the second movie in James Gunn’s reboot of the DC canon!

Per Deadline, Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock as the titular girl/woman of tomorrow, will follow her cousin Superman’s reboot lead and fly in theaters in June 2026, approximately one year after Big Blue.

Supergirl will be directed by Craig Gillespie, who you might remember from I, Tonya, Cruella, and Dumb Money. With a script by Ana Nogueira, an actor and playwright best known for recurring roles on The Vampire Diaries and The Blacklist, Woman Of Tomorrow is an adaptation of Tom King’s comic series of the same name. King’s Woman Of Tomorrow is an angsty origin story that sees a despondent Kara Zor-El dealing with the destruction of her home planet and a mission to protect her cousin Kal-El, who turns out to be Superman, so he doesn’t need her help. The book follows her and her trusty dog, Krypto, as they travel the cosmos looking for the bastards who destroyed Krypton. Plus, she has a sword! Why does Supergirl need a sword? Will Krypto be in this movie? We’ll have to buy a ticket to find out (or wait for Chris Pratt to officially be cast as Krypto).

Supergirl lands in theaters on June 26, 2026.

It’s been a while since I’ve read it but King’s Woman of Tomorrow was a pretty transparent True Grit rip-off with Supergirl as a nicer Rooster Cogburn. That synopsis sounds pretty different to me besides having Supergirl and Krypto there.

Sounds about right. been awhile for me too, and while i don’t always like King as much as some I do recall enjoying his Supergirl run. spoilers i guess but iirc a chunk of the story occurs in a planet in a system with a red sun so she is depowered for awhile.

Oh yeah it’s not BAD (though I thought the start was pretty rough) but I was just saying it’s definitely not the same as what’s in that article

King unabashedly uses True Grit as a jumping off point before becoming something different entirely. But agreed, the synopsis sounds different.

All I’m hearing is that the CW show is going to remain the best Supergirl adaptation for at least another decade.

“Nicer?” I guess I can live with that as long as at some point someone calls her a one eyed fat man and she says “Fill yer hand, you sunofabitch!”

Not gonna lie, it’s a little weird that a man is directing this, but Gillespie has been one of those filmmakers who doesn’t seem to know he’s allowed an occasional miss for a while now, so I can’t argue there.

LOL… What’s “weird” about a man directing a superhero movie?

I thought Dumb Money was kind of mediocre. The surrealness of the Gamestop squeeze and all the hoopla that came with it was still pretty fresh on my mind and I felt like the movie did very little to add to it.Granted he didn’t write it though.
