As Ted Lasso’s third season heads for a conclusion, the Apple TV+ series appears to be going out with a whisper, not a bang—at least in Los Angeles, that is. Earlier this week, a Paley Center season 3 finale screening and celebration was abruptly canceled with event organizers citing “unforeseen circumstances,” Deadline reports.

Initially scheduled to take place at The Samuel Goldwyn Theater at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday, May 30, event organizers have not yet publicly elaborated on the reasoning behind the cancellation. A message on the event page states that “all ticket buyers will automatically be issued a full refund.” Numerous stars from the popular show were set to attend, including Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Hannah Waddingham, Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, Jeremy Swift, Cristo Fernandez, Billy Harris, Kola Bokinni and James Lance.

Although public details behind the cancellation remain scant, the Ted Lasso celebration is one of many events that have been canceled since the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) first began striking on May 1. The Daytime Emmys and Peabody Awards were both postponed at the beginning of May, and the MTV Movie Awards were reformatted as a pre-taped broadcast after host Drew Barrymore dropped out in solidarity with the WGA. The Tony Awards are still scheduled for June 11; the WGA agreed not to picket the event earlier this month after Tony Awards Productions reformatted the event to comply with WGA requests. As far as the Ted Lasso cast goes, Sudeikis, Hunt, Fernandez and Brett Goldstein have all shown out at WGA picket lines in solidarity with the Guild’s collective action.

Ted Lasso’s season finale premieres on Apple TV+ on May 31.

Incidentally, the Paley Centers in LA and NYC are pretty great. If you haven’t been, check out their events. If you’re interested in weird old tv and tantalizingly unavailable media, their archives are terrific and VERY extensive… and the staff is so helpful setting you up for a viewing. Invaluable for research or just satisfying that itch to watch some forgotten comedy not out on streaming, physical media, or torrent sites.

Oh, thank you. I have encountered several movies that really interested me and despite extensive sleuthing was unable to find them to stream, legally or otherwise.

If they’re not giving a reason I will just go ahead and assume the worst. The Mayan calendar was a bit more than a decade off the mark and the 2012 apocalypse is next Wednesday.Good luck folks!

I wonder if based on the coverage of season 3, they didn’t want to have to face a lot of people pretending not to look annoyed and disappointed

I just assumed it got cancelled because the finale will be 517 minutes long and that won’t leave time for a Q&A

You got to the joke before I did so take your star instead

yah what was the runtime of last weeks episode. Man they’re long now.

        • erakfishfishfish-av says:

70 minutes! The show hit its peak with last season’s Christmas episode. That was also the last episode to be only 30 minutes long. They’ve been creeping up in runtime ever since.

I assume you are off the mark about the coverage. An LA based friend had tickets and she’s a Lasso superfan. You have to be a pretty dedicated troll to spend 50 bucks to heckle the cast and creators of a TV show.

the cast, crew, producers, etc, can’t wait to run away from ted lasso, the most embarrassing TV show of all-time!

    Was there no opining?

I hope this is the end of this mess of a show. What started great in the first 2 season spread itself far too thin this season. I don’t care what happens with 2,323 loose ends. End it now. The character of Ted Lasso is tiresome and corny.

  • facebones-av says:

Well, that’s odd. The Paley Center in NYC is closed all weekend due to a “power outage.” What a weird coincidence that happened on a holiday weekend. https://www.paleycenter.org/visit-visitny/

“Vaguely cancelled” means that the event may or may not have been cancelled; it’s unclear if it’s happening or not.“Cancelled for vague reasons” would probably serve better.

So, now we know why they canceled it: the entire cast is on the picket lines today instead.
