Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny had a decent opening at the box office this past weekend; in short, it won the day but still didn’t live up to the lofty expectations some may have had. But in a year that has already seen the debut of two Marvel Studios movies and a live-action Disney remake (historically some of the most financially successful films this side of Pandora), where does it rank?

Here’s a look at the biggest domestic box office openings so far in 2023 (courtesy of Box Office Mojo), featuring The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, John Wick: Chapter 4, Fast X, and The Little Mermaid.

There’s absolutely no reason for this to be a slideshow. Seriously. Making it a slideshow even shifts the numbering for each entry, so, e.g., the #1 movie is listed in the 2 spot. And the complete lack of commentary gives this list the appearance of something slapped together in a rush to meet a quota; giving the projections for each movie and some sort of context as to whether they opened on a traditionally-busy or -slow weekend would’ve at least given this list some value beyond what a simple link to Box Office Mojo would’ve provided.1.
